Get to know Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK)

Tampere University of Applied Sciences (TAMK) is located in southern Finland, only less than a two-hour ride from the capital, Helsinki. Tampere is between two beautiful lakes, Pyhäjärvi and Näsijärvi which are linked by Tammerkoski, rapids which stream through the city.  Tampere is the third-largest city in Finland, the sauna capital of the world, and well known by the industry. Tampere is very popular among students and the city offers plenty of fun and affordable activities for students year-round.

TAMK has multiple campuses around Tampere and the Pirkanmaa area. The main campus is located near-by the city center of Tampere, right next to the Tampere University hospital Tays. Campus supports the various teaching methods and offers spaces from big conference rooms to small pods for self-studying. There are also many areas dedicated to group work where students can work on their projects in a relaxed and inspiring environment. The campus has many student restaurants and cafés offering affordable food and drinks. In the sports facilities, there are a gym, group exercise studio, and indoor sports facilities.

The main student housing provider for students is Tampere Student Housing Foundation (TOAS). TOAS offers high-quality dorm rooms at a student-friendly price including free internet. Every sixth person in Tampere is a student. That means students are a big part of the community and there are many things to do in the city. Student union and organizations are really active and organize many events year-round. It is common to see students wearing their overalls (haalarit in Finnish), playing games and chilling in parks and of course in the nightlife. All new students have orientation week at the beginning of their studies and with the help of tutors, it’s easy to become a part of a student community where are people from many different backgrounds.

After graduation

After graduation, students can apply for a 1-year residence permit that allows them to stay in Finland for job-seeking. Once you get a job in Finland, you can apply for a work-based residence permit. Tampere is a great place to look for a job since the city has plenty of companies that need international skills in their teams. Also, there are multiple healthcare providers who constantly are recruiting more employees. Living in the happiest country in the world where it’s safe and nature is beautiful will be a dream come through for many.
