SLUSH Finland: My Amazing Work Experience with Finns

“A unique study abroad opportunity while gaining valuable work experience. The knowledge I acquired during my stay here is priceless, and unparalleled.”

How is it like working in Finland?

“I had an amazing work experience there! Well, technically I worked in a Finnish organization, not in the HQ in Finland. But it was so cool to have this experience, meeting with the guys expert in their field of profession, I learned a lot during that time and met a lot of new friends.”

Why Finland?

“I haven’t got too many offers that time. But Finland is definitely a good choice for me. The University of Helsinki is the top university in my area. Finland is quite different, amazingly different and being in a unique place changes you, it made me grow and explore the world better.”

How is it like working in Slush Finland?

“I joined a Finnish organization, it was a kind of a coincidence actually, but I think it was a two-way selection. I was just a first-year student that time, so I am appreciating the chance they gave me. I worked as the head of the team, managed events and team lead.”

How is it different working in Finland compared to your country of origin, What is your advice to foreign students who wish to study abroad?

“Slush is a cool organization, I guess there’s no organization like them that can give young people so many opportunities and a great platform to young people to achieve more. They provided a great experience that can really help them in the future. Slush is especially awesome to young people who want to start their own business, they can just observe how other people work, camaraderie, learning from the best.

Technically, I think there’s a difference of course, but not much compared to other countries. But I find them more sane, flexible, unique and straightforward. It was kind of embarrassing at first, but you will get used to it. Adjust to different cultures, changes and embrace it.”

Any short but sweet advice to students who wish to study and work in Finland?

“For me, my experiences and self-growth is still a work in progress- but if you want to take the leap and work and study at the same time, the routine will help you a lot, you’ll learn how to manage everything! From the time, money priorities, you will also learn to manage to be composed when the going gets tough. Sacrifice and hard work. But everything is worth it.”
