After each year, you should apply for an extended permit as your previous residence permit (RP) is going to expire. Likewise, you can extend your permit residence in 2 years. Remember that you just can apply for an extended permit only in Finland, it means that you cannot do it abroad. Here are some important things needed for renewing your RP.
Preparation of E-service form
The first thing to do is you should access to enterfinland.fi and choose extended residence permit option, then use your previous account, which was used to first extend permit residence to log in. If you do not remember your old account, you can create a new one. Next is choosing one of these three options: work, studies or family.

The important scanned documents needed are:
- Copy of your valid passport
- Letter of attendance
- Health insurance
- Documentation of paid tuition fee or documentation of scholarship (it can be an email screenshot of confirmation from your school or a bank transaction)
- Report on your study progress (You must gain at least 45 credits during your academic year)
- Clarification of income (6720 EUR for one year and for two year – stay is 13440 EUR)
Once the application form is filled up, attach all the required documents, then you can go to Migri service point. However, bearing in mind that the service point can be very busy, so you should book an appointment online to save time.
Service payment
The next step is to submit your application and pay for the service fee with the amount of 150 EUR by credit card or use the online banking services conveniently. Another option is paying the fee at Migri service office.
On the appointment day
When the appointment day is taken place, please remember to take all your important, required documents with you. In the direct appointment with Migri service office, if they require you to submit some other necessary docs, you should upload online as soon as possible.
Checking the E-service progress
After visiting the service point in person, you should wait and check the progress of getting a decision through the website. Normally, it takes about 1-5 weeks to get the online decision, depending on the processing time of your service point. Then wait the next 2-3 weeks to receive the announcement letter, so as you can pick up your RP card at post (post office) in your area. Remember to bring your passport when picking it up at posti.
The most vital things to remember are having well – prepared docs, being on – time at the appointment, and be patient!
