Study Tour in Hämeenlinna

Edunation and Uniagents organized a lovely study tour in Hämeelinna at Lyseo Upper Secondary School and Häme University of Applied Sciences, HAMK, on November 1, 2018 for the foreign delegates visiting Finland.

25 delegates came from different parts of the world to join the Uniagents European Summit 2018 in Helsinki. They were interested to know more about the education system in Finland and its innovative structure, based on trust and equality.

At Lyseo Upper Secondary School, the English teacher Anna-Leena Riekkola and counsellor Anne Ahvenharju welcomed us and organized an informative and compelling lecture about the Finnish education system.

All the delegates were very curious and surprised to learn how innovative and different the study program and the teaching method were! Flexibility, low-hierarchy relationship between teacher and students, trust and freedom given to pupils were the main points discussed.

We had a tour around the school and participated in the lectures. It was very fascinating to see that during class, computers and tablets were used to take notes instead of pen and paper!

Last speech from Anna-Leena and Anne, we bid them our goodbyes and started heading to Häme University of Applied Sciences for lunch.

At HAMK, international coordinators Veera Sciacca and Anu Virtanen provided us with an informative session about the university and its academic programs. Students have the possibility to do an internship as part of their program, which helps with the transition from student life to the working environment, as well as the development of practical skills.

We had a small tour of the campus before visiting Tavastia castle, the main attraction of the city. The castle was built in the 13th century to serve as a military fortress. Now it is popular tourist destination and a venue for events, such as renessaince fairs.

The study tour was a broadening experience, which offered us a deeper insight into the Finnish education system and its potential for international students who want to study in the country! Whether you are a student or educational consultant interested in Finland, we can recommend Finland for you as a study destination.
