Our journey with the new batch of Pathway to Finland students has officially begun! After arriving over the weekend from different parts of the world, they have now spent two days settling into their new environment, eager to start this exciting chapter in Finland.
A Warm Welcome and First Encounters
During the orientation session, we could already feel the excitement in the air. Meeting the students for the first time, seeing their enthusiasm, and answering their questions made for an energizing start.
We also had a special lunch with the Edusampo staff, where we met one of our students from the Restaurant & Catering (April 2024) group. She was already putting her skills into practice at the student restaurant—a proud moment for us all!
First day in Finland: Exploring the Beautiful Campus
The Edusampo campus is a sight to behold, and we were lucky to visit Lappeenranta right after a snowy day. The picturesque surroundings added to the charm of our tour as we made our way to meet the students.
Meanwhile, our staff—Sinna and Vasa from Edunation—had the pleasure of meeting Hanna and Pia from Edusampo. This collaboration between our teams ensures that students receive the best support as they adjust to their new life in Finland.
Getting Ready for Daily Life
Before meeting the students, their Finnish teacher, Silvina Pereira, gave them practical advice on what essentials to buy first. If you look closely at one student’s shoes, you’ll notice ice grips (liukueste)—a crucial winter accessory in Finland!
Interestingly, they are meant to be removed indoors, but our student had them on, ready to head back out into the snow.
Speaking of shopping, the students wasted no time getting what they needed! With a few free hours in their study schedule, they managed to tick off their first essential purchases.
A Taste of Finland: Chocolate and Salmiakki
Sinna brought along some Finnish treats for the students to try. While the chocolate puffs were a clear favorite, the salt liquorice (“salmiakki”) was a true test of bravery! This uniquely Finnish candy has a bold, salty flavor—definitely not for the faint-hearted!
