Let’s Get to Know More Arianne Dela Cruz
Arianne Dela Cruz, a former cruise ship photographer and licensed teacher from the Philippines, explored on an extraordinary journey to pursue her academic dreams in Finland.
Arianne’s journey to Finland was driven by a deep love for her son and a desire to provide him with the best possible education. She recognized the value of Finland’s renowned education system, its commitment to quality, and its focus on holistic development.
Driven by a desire to pursue her education and provide her son with a world-class education, she turned to Edunation’s Pathway to Finland program as a gateway to one of Finland’s best universities.
Finland’s reputation for quality education and safety was a major draw for Arianne. She was particularly impressed by the country’s commitment to providing a strong foundation for young learners.
At first, she initially considered Canada as a study destination, but Finland’s unique blend of natural beauty, peaceful lifestyle, and excellent academic institutions ultimately influenced her decision.
How Does Edunation Help arianne
Instead of doing an admission’s exam to get to Finland, Arianne chose Edunation’s Pathway to Finland program, which played a pivotal role in her and his son’s academic journey. The program simplified the application process, providing valuable guidance and support throughout.
Moreover, upon entering the university, there were certain credit points she had to aim for to get a lesser tuition fee.
Hence, Edunation helped her; aside from getting here in Finland, she earned 30 credits during her class with the Pathway to Finland program, which were credited to her chosen University, allowing her to get a discount on the tuition fee.
Currently, Arianne is in her 2nd year of Bachelors in Tourism or Hospitality Management at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences. She also shared why she chose this study program instead of proceeding with a higher degree related to her license as a teacher. She said,
For me, I chose this because I already have a Vocational Degree or diploma course in Food Service. I wanted to continue with that as an option for me to have work here in Finland. Because we all know that the hospitality industry is not a dying industry; it will never be. So it would be better for here to be in that industry.

How Arianne Faces the Challenges and Embraces Opportunities
Like any other international student, Arianne faced challenges during the application process. However, with the assistance of Edunation, she was able to navigate these hurdles and successfully secure her place at Kajaani University of Applied Sciences.
Her experience at the university has been positive, exceeding her initial expectations. She has found the academic environment to be stimulating and the support services to be more helpful. She said,
“In terms of living, everything is all good because my son is safe; he can walk to school on his own, bike to school on his own, come home, and then if I’m not yet home, he can go to daycare or an after-school program. Everything that I expected for my son was met.”

Beyond academics, Finland offers a wealth of opportunities for cultural immersion, outdoor activities, and language learning, especially for her son.
Why Arianne Chose Kajaani University of Applied Sciences
She chose Kajaani basically for financial reasons. Kajaani offers significantly lower tuition fees compared to other cities in Finland. She said,
“Nature in itself is the selling point here in Kajaani because here in Kajaani, you won’t see that many busy streets; you won’t even see a lot of people around. That’s really a selling point for me because no matter what time, wherever you go, there’s somebody walking on the street. And it’s really a safe place for kids to grow.”

her Advice to Aspiring international Students
For international students considering the Pathway to Finland program, Arianne offers the following advice:
“Don’t expect a handout; you have to find your footing in terms of moving to a different place. Everything is new; everything is different. You really have to work your way.“
She adds, “Because if you don’t work your way, and expect a handout or help from everybody, you won’t survive. It’s all about why you’re here, what you want for yourself, and if you have other people with you, what you want for them.
Therefore, the driving question should be, “Why are you here?” Not because you just want euros or you want to live in a snowy place; no, it has to be more than that. Because you are aiming for something higher for yourself or for someone that you love.
So aside from self-motivation, self-adjustment, and a good perception of what you will expect, be financially stable. Find enough funds first, and it has to be beyond 1 year because, believe me, what they would tell you as the amount of money that you need is not gonna be enough.”

The Breathtaking Northern Lights
One of Arianne’s most unforgettable experiences in Finland was witnessing the breathtaking Northern Lights during the summer. The mesmerizing display of colors in the night sky was a truly magical sight. She said,
“I saw it during summertime. It was not just the green northern light; it was a mix of purple, pink, green, and blue. THAT WAS REALLY AMAZING. Even if it was cold, I was just staring at the sky.”
-Arianne
Above all, Arianne’s decision to study in Finland has benefited her academically and has also provided her son with a bright future.
