First In-Person Day in the Study Hub
Our students had their very first in-person day, where they met their dedicated teachers. Maija, who will be teaching Finnish language, and Bishoy, who will be guiding them through Finnish culture.
The day started with a heartfelt welcome from Edunation team members Netta, Sinna, and Vasa. They led a fun round of introductions and helped everyone feel at home.
To make the day even more special, students got to taste a traditional Finnish treat — Runebergin torttu, a delicious pastry often enjoyed with a cup of coffee. It was the perfect way to get a “taste” of what’s to come in their Finland experience. ☕🥧
spring 2025 Day One and First Stop at Oodi Library
After settling into the Study Hub, it was time to head out and explore Helsinki! Our students went on not one, but two exciting city days filled with iconic landmarks, local history, and, of course, Finnish food.
We began our first stop at Oodi, Helsinki’s central library that’s as stunning as it is smart. Known for its modern architecture, open design, and community-centered spaces, Oodi gave our students a glimpse of how the Finns value learning, accessibility, and creativity in everyday life.
Whether it’s reading, creating in maker spaces, or just soaking in the calm atmosphere, this place left a lasting impression.
A Walk Through the City Center & Stockmann’s Stylish Legacy
From Oodi, we strolled through downtown Helsinki and visited Stockmann, Finland’s most iconic department store.
Founded in 1862, Stockmann is a celebration of timeless Finnish design and contemporary fashion. Students enjoyed browsing the beautifully curated displays, learning about local brands, and discovering how design plays a central role in Finnish culture.
Our first day’s final stop was the breathtaking Helsinki Cathedral, perched above Senate Square. With its grand neoclassical architecture and panoramic views, this landmark is a must-see for anyone visiting the city. Of course, we couldn’t resist snapping a group photo here — the perfect souvenir from a memorable day.
SPRING 2025 Day Two: Secondhand Finds and Sweet Finnish Treats
On our second day out in the city, we met at the iconic Helsinki Central Railway Station and headed toward UFF, a well-known Finnish thrift store in Kamppi. Here, students explored the world of secondhand fashion — a big part of https://www.edunation.co/blog/living-costs-in-finland/
To cap off the day, we stopped by the beloved Fazer Café. It’s where everyone got a taste of Laskiaispulla — a soft, sweet bun filled with whipped cream and jam or almond paste, traditionally enjoyed during the winter season. It was the perfect warm-up treat for a chilly spring day in Helsinki!
