The Hämeenlinna Student Housing Foundation (HOPS) provides housing services for students in Hämeenlinna and Riihimäki. The housing options are very suitable for first year students coming to Finland.

There are three types of apartments available for students: studio, shared and family. The cheapest type of accommodation is shared apartment, where you have your own bedroom but share the living room, kitchen and bathroom with another student. If you have a friend who is also looking for student housing, you can request him/her as your roommate when you fill out the housing application form.

Shared apartments are also easier to get as there are more of them available than studio apartments. Therefore, we strongly recommend you to apply for a shared apartment. Studio apartment is the most popular and expensive option, and you might need to wait for over a year to receive an offer to one.

  • Go to the application form on HOPS‘ website
  • Choose the city and type of accommodation you are looking for (we recommend shared apartment)
  • Fill in your personal information
  • Send the application

Note! You need to have the certificate of your secured study place when you apply for student housing.

The rent includes water and electricity in all apartment types. Additional services in all locations are internet, laundry room, sauna slots, common tenant facilities and storage spaces. Most of the apartments come with basic furniture such as a bed (no mattress), desk, shelf, and a table with some chairs in the common area.

Note! Apartments in Hattelmala H2, Riihimäki Merkuriuksenkatu 7 and Kampuskaarre 1 are rented without furniture.

You can confirm your tenancy agreement by signing and sending it with the requested documents to the housing provider by the given due date. Remember also to pay the deposit by the deadline to secure the apartment.

If your arrival date in Finland hasn’t been confirmed and you have to refuse the apartment offer, notify the housing provider immediately so they can offer the apartment to the next person. Note that if you refuse the offer, you might have to wait for a long time for the next apartment offer to come. We recommend you to reapply for the apartment as soon as possible!

If you decide not to take the apartment after signing the agreement and paying the deposit, HOPS Student Housing will refund the full deposit, except for a 50 EUR fee.
