Overview

Häme University of Applied Sciences, also known as HAMK, is a higher education institution with several campuses throughout the most populated area of southern Finland. There are around 8 000 students studying in the 7 campuses of HAMK.

Students at HAMK have plenty of opportunities to grow their international competencies during their studies, thanks to the multicultural learning environment offered by the university, and thanks to the high-quality teaching based on versatile pedagogical solutions. HAMK has strong links to business and industry. Therefore, the graduate employment rate is one of the highest in Finland, as is also the rate of graduates who start their own business. HAMK also has four research units that support the industry within the region. In this way, HAMK can offer authentic learning environments and assignments for the benefit of both students and enterprises.

Moreover, HAMK is known for its international environment. The university has more than 100 partner institutions worldwide. Students can choose to do exchange studies or double degree programs in one of HAMK’s partner institutions.

Admission criteria

The application process is fast and simple. Students are pre-screened on a first-come, first-served basis which means that if you meet the admission requirements, you are forwarded to the university and invited to the online exam and/or interview. You can get your acceptance in 4-6 weeks.

    Educational background

    Applicants who have completed a qualification outside Finland must submit the following documents to Edunation:

    • Copy of the final/official secondary school certificate or vocational qualification which gives eligibility for higher education studies in your own country
    • Transcript of records with a GPA of 50% or above. This is required to be able to apply through Edunation.
    • Translations of the documents in Finnish, Swedish or English, if the original document is in none of those languages. The translations need to be signed and stamped by an authorized translator.

    Note: Original copies must be shown when arriving in Finland. All documents need to be translated to either Finnish, Swedish or English, if the original document is in none of those languages. The translations need to be signed and stamped by an authorized translator.

    Proof of nationality

    • Copy of passport ID page OR official ID card indicating the nationality

    Note: You will need a valid passport when you apply for a visa or residence permit.

    Motivation letter and design assignment

    The Bachelor Program in Smart and Sustainable Design requires additionally a motivational letter and a design assignment. The applicant will receive instructions about the letter and assignment one week before the English entrance exam.
  • Online exam & Interview

    All applicants regardless of their grades can apply to HAMK by taking part in an online entrance exam.

    Entrance exams are organized on the following days:

    • 2.12.2021.
    • 9.2.2022.
    • 9.3.2022.
    • 7.4.2022.
    • 4.5.2022.
    • 1.6.2022.

    The invitation will be sent by e-mail approximately one week before the exam.

    Exam

    Entrance exams are organized online.

    Generally, the entrance exam consists of an essay, a section measuring mathematical/logical thinking, a compulsory section measuring English language proficiency. However, the content changes depending on the program you are applying to. You can check “HAMK entrance exam info September 2022” for more detailed information about each entrance exam.

    Selection

    You must pass all parts of the exam in order to be able to be selected for admission. If you fail to reach the minimum points in any of the exam parts or in the total score, you will be disqualified. Applicants are not given separate points for the language test, and it’s graded only as a pass/fail.

  • Other admissions options

    SAT

    Applicants can also choose to apply to HAMK with their SAT Test scores. Applicants who submit SAT scores will not have to participate in the entrance exam.

    Note that applicants to the Smart and Sustainable Design program can only apply through the exam, not with SAT scores.

    If you apply with SAT scores, HAMK requires a minimum score of 500 from Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 500 from Mathematics. Only new SAT scores taken after 1 March 2016 are accepted. You need to request the test score report to be sent to HAMK directly from the testing center. HAMK’s code is 6894.

    International Baccalaureate

    Applicants who submit a Diploma Program (DP), Course Results or IB Certificate during the application period will be offered a study place based on their school performance if the applicant has obtained at least the following grades:

    GPA: 5 or higher
    English: 5
    Math: 5
    Only for engineering programs: Physics 5

    Note: All documents need to be translated to English, if the original document is not in English. The translations need to be signed and stamped by the translator.

  • For Vietnamese applicants

    Applicants that have completed (or complete during the academic year 2021-2022) high school in Vietnam can be admitted on the basis of their school performance. To be admitted applicants are required to have the following grades on their 12th grade transcript of records (Bằng Tốt Nghiệp Phổ Thông Trung Học):

    • GPA 8.0 or higher
    • English 8.0 or higher
    • Mathematics 8.0 or higher
    • Only for engineering programs: Physics 8.0 or higher

    Note: All documents need to be translated to English, if the original document is not in English. The translations need to be signed and stamped by the translator.

  • For Indian applicants

    Applicants that have completed (or complete during the academic year 2020-2021) the following certificates can be admitted based on their certificate:

    • All India Senior School Certificate (AISSC) from Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE)
    • Indian School Certificate (ISC) from Council for the Indian School Certificate (CISCE)

    To be admitted applicants are required to have the following grades on their certificate:

    • GPA 60% or higher
    • English 60% or higher
    • Mathematics 60% or higher
    • Only for engineering programs: Physics 60% or higher

  • For Chinese applicants

    Applicants with Chinese High School Graduation Certificate (中国高中毕业证书) from the following provinces: Beijing, Shanghai, Guangdong and Sichuan can be admitted based on their certificate. To be admitted applicants are required to have the following grades on their certificate:

    • English 80/100 or 120/150
    • Mathematics 80/100 or 120/150
    • Only for engineering programs: Physics 80/100 or 120/150

Tuition Fees & Scholarship

Tuition Fees

Students who are from non-EU/EEA countries and start their studies after January 2020 are required to pay a fee of 9700 € per academic year for bachelor’s degrees in English.

The tuition fee for the academic year must be paid at the time of confirming the study place. The fee must be paid at once and cannot be paid in installments.

Early Bird Discount

Students who pay their annual tuition fee in one instalment by the given dates will get a €800 discount (bachelor´s degree). The Early Bird Discount is meant only for students who have been accepted to HAMK first time for the academic year 2023.

You are not able to get the discount if you have been accepted earlier, but you have been absent.

 

Scholarships

Scholarships are available for fee paying degree students at HAMK. Starting from November 2020 scholarships are granted based on Finnish language skills. The aim of HAMK’s scholarship program is to support the future employment of international degree students in Finland by encouraging students to gain good level of Finnish language during their studies.  

Students can be awarded with a scholarships twice during their studies based on their level of Finnish language and provided that they complete 60 ECTS credits per academic year. The Finnish language skills are evaluated by exam results or HAMK’s Finnish language teachers written certificate. 

 1. Scholarship: Basic User of Finnish language (CERF level A2): 3200 € 

2. Scholarship: Independent User of Finnish language – (CERF level B1): 6500 € 

  • Paid once, the earliest after the first academic year. If the student is awarded with Scholarship 1, they can be awarded with Scholarship 2 after the second academic year the earliest 
  • HAMK encourages students to aim at Finnish language level B1 and will support and offer guidance. B1 is an advanced level requiring long-term commitment to studying Finnish. 

Please note: the students who have started their degree studies before 2020, will continue to be awarded with scholarship based solely on study progression. The scholarship programme that was in place at the start of their studies, will be applicable for the whole duration of the studies.
