HAMK aims to provide the necessary skills for a professional construction engineer to succeed in today’s competitive job market. The bachelor’s degree in construction engineering gives you skills in construction as well as international know-how. Demand for international construction engineering experts is increasing continuously in international construction projects in Finland and abroad.
As a construction engineer, you must have a view of the entire construction process. In addition, the work demands you professional knowledge management and problem-solving skills. You need to be able to think financially. Moreover, you need to have cooperation skills, IT skills and language skills as well. A lot of emphases is put on all of those skills you will learn during your studies. A degree completed in English enables you to work anywhere in the world.

The degree program in Construction Engineering allows students to focus on structural engineering, particularly on steel construction engineering.
Steel Constructions studies focus on many aspects, such as mechanics, mathematics, technical drawings, and CAD. Understanding the structures and 3-D visualization skills will develop during the studies.
During your studies, you will be taking the following modules:
- Operating Environment of Building Trade
- Basics of Land Use, Planning and Building Materials
- Planning and Completion of a Low-Rise Dwellling Project
- Structural Engineering of a One-Family House Project
- Basics of Structural Dimensioning
- Energy in Construction Technology
The Structural Design and Steel Structures studies consist of following profiling modules:
- Residential Building and Civil Engineering
- Commercial and Industrial Building
- Design of Concrete Structures
- Renovation
- Steel Structures 1
- Steel Structures 2
- Timber Structures
Studies also include an internship and a bachelor’s thesis.
The tasks of engineering graduates may be related to the construction of new premises and to the repair of existing structures in engineering or project management in Finland and abroad.
Daily tasks involve design, product development, supervision in an official capacity, or trading. Construction professionals constantly monitor developments in the sector, they are familiar with the latest design and production techniques and can manage modern management techniques, and they are capable of applying them to practical situations at work.
