Admission criteria

The application process is fast and simple. The students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis which means that if you meet the minimum criteria, you can get your acceptance within a month.

    Our Pathway to Finland program offers guaranteed access to the following programs at LAB:

    Make sure you have all the following documents ready when you fill out the application form.

    EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

    Applicants who have completed a qualification outside Finland must submit the following documents to Edunation:

    • Copy of the final/official higher secondary school certificate or vocational qualification which gives eligibility for higher education studies in your own country
    • Transcript of records

    Note: Original certificates must be shown when arriving in Finland. All documents need to be translated to English, Finnish or Swedish if the original document is in none of those languages. The translations need to be signed and stamped by the translator.

    PROOF OF NATIONALITY

    • Passport ID page OR official ID card indicating nationality

    Note: You will need a valid passport when you apply for a visa or residence permit.

    ENTRANCE EXAM OR SAT TEST

    An online entrance examination, the International UAS Exam consists of two phases:

    1. First phase – written exam on 9 February 2022
    2. Second phase – group interview (oral exam) on 2 – 16 March 2022

    The entrance examination assesses the applicants’ abilities to study in universities of applied sciences. The entrance examination does not contain any pre-reading materials or pre-tasks.

    SAT TEST

    As an alternative to the entrance examination, you can take an SAT test.

    LAB University of Applied Sciences requires the SAT test results from the following two sections with certain minimum points:

    • Evidence-based reading and writing: 480 (Note: Essay results are not required.)
    • Math: 500

    The SAT score must arrive at LAB Admission Services directly from the test organizer, College Board. The code for LAB University of Applied Sciences is 7191.

    The SAT test result needs to be received at LAB University of Applied Sciences by 4 April 2022.

    PRE-ASSIGNMENT AND ENTRANCE EXAM FOR DESIGN PROGRAMS

    The student selection for the Bachelor of Culture and Arts, Packaging and Brand Design, full-time studies, Lahti and Bachelor of Culture and Arts, Industrial Design, full-time studies, Lahti is two-phased.

    First, the applicant is expected to prepare and submit a preliminary assignment by February 20, 2022. The instructions for the assignment can be found here. The main assignments are:

    • Letter of motivation
    • Drawing: Minimalist Survival Kit
    • Prototyping: Sustainable Green Food

    In the first phase, the assignment will be evaluated on the scale of accepted/failed. Applicants with accepted assignments will be invited to the entrance exam which will be held in the beginning of April 2022.

    The entrance exam consists of an interview and versatile assignments measuring the special skills needed in the field of design. Applicant’s abilities in visual and creative problem solving as well as suitability and motivation are assessed. At this stage, the preliminary assignment will also be scored.

    Student selection is based on the joint score of these three segments: the preliminary assignment, the entrance exam assignments, and the interview. Maximum joint score is 100 points. In order to be accepted, the applicant must achieve at least 10 points in each of the three segments.

    The entrance exam will be conducted online.

  • Admission requirements for master's degree

    Make sure you have all the following documents ready when you fill out the application form.

    EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

    Applicants who have completed a qualification outside Finland must submit the following documents to Edunation:

    • Copy of the bachelor’s degree certificate in a related field
    • Transcript of records
    • Work certificate(s) of at least 24 months/2 years after bachelor graduation

    Note: Original certificates must be shown when arriving in Finland. All documents need to be translated to English, Finnish or Swedish if the original document is in none of those languages. The translations need to be signed and stamped by the translator.

    PROOF OF NATIONALITY

    • Passport ID page OR official ID card indicating nationality

    ASSIGNMENTS AND VIDEO

    • Instructions will be published on 5.1.2022. Both assignments have to be completed by 15.3.2022.

Tuition Fees & Scholarship

Tuition Fees

Students who are from a non-EU/EEA country are required to pay a tuition fee. The fee for the bachelor’s degree programs is 8 000 € per academic year and for the master’s degree programs is 9 000 € per academic year 

Scholarships

The scholarship is based on a 50% reduction in the fee for the second year (1.8. – 31.7.), if the student manages to complete a minimum of 55 ECTS during the first year. In addition, a 50% reduction applies to all the following years, if the student has completed a minimum of 55 ECTS during the previous academic year. This policy will be applied until the end of the study time.

THE EARLY BIRD DISCOUNT

When you have been accepted to study at LAB University of Applied Sciences, you must pay the tuition fee in three week’s time to receive the Early bird discount of 20%. If the tuition fee is paid after the deadline, the tuition fee must be paid in full.
