LUT University is a pioneering science university in Lappeenranta, found in 1969. LUT University brings together the fields of Science and Business. Bachelor of  Science in Technology and Engineering Science

The bachelor program has 4 specializations:

LUT Summer School offers you an ideal way to become acquainted with THE wide range of academic opportunities at LUT University. With the extensive selection of courses, the program aims to both challenge and inspire you. The LUT Summer School is a two-week academic event in June-July, that offers intensive Master’s-level courses in the field of marketing, management and inventive thinking.

LUT Winter School is a short study course offering both period-long and intensive courses. All courses are designed for business and technology students, who are either completing their Bachelor’s or doing their Master’s degree. LUT Winter School takes place between January – March and it offers both subject courses and a Finnish language course.

All bachelor’s degree programs last the duration of 3 years and award the graduate with 180 ECTS credits.

Master’s degree programs last 2 years and award 120 ECTS credits.

Admission criteria

The application process is fast and simple. The students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis which means that if you meet the minimum criteria, you can get your acceptance within a month.

There are two programs: standard program (1 semester) and extended program (2 semesters).

The admission requirements for the standard program are:

  • High school diploma / Higher Secondary Education
  • Transcript of records (if possible)
  • Proof of English language: IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 46-59, Duolingo English Test 85-90, or equivalent.
  • Copy of passport ID page

The admission requirements for the extended program are:

  • High school diploma / Higher Secondary Education
  • Transcript of records (if possible)
  • Proof of English language: IELTS 5.0, TOEFL iBT 35-45, Duolingo English Test 75-80, or equivalent

Educational background

Applicants who have completed a qualification outside Finland must submit the following documents to Edunation:

  • Copy of the final/official higher secondary school certificate or vocational qualification which gives eligibility for higher education studies in your own country
  • Transcript of records

Note: Original certificates must be shown when arriving in Finland.

Proof of nationality

  • Passport ID page OR official ID card indicating nationality

Note: You will need a valid passport when you apply for a visa or residence permit.

SAT

You can apply to LUT Bachelor’s programs with SAT Test scores, with a minimum score of 480 from Evidence-Based Reading and Writing and 500 from Math.

LUT University’s institutional code for SAT-Test is 7603.

International Baccalaureate

If you don’t have SAT, you can also apply with International Baccalaureate. To be eligible, you need to have one of the following requirements:

  • C in Physics and a Pass in Advanced Mathematics OR
  • C in Chemistry and a Pass in Advanced Mathematics OR
  • C in Advanced Mathematics.

In addition, you must submit proof of your English language skills. You need to have one of the following requirements:

  • IELTS 6.0 or equivalent OR
  • A degree (higher education or upper secondary school) completed in an EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the U.S.A OR
  • IB completed fully in English
  • If IB was not completed in English, IB must have English grades:
    • English as A1 language with an approved grade (minimum grade 2) OR
    • English as A2 language with a minimum grade 5 OR
    • English as A language (literature/language and literature/language and performance) with an accepted grade (minimum grade 2) OR
    • English as B language with a minimum grade 5

There are 2 application periods:

  • Regular admission: 23.11.2020 – 09.01.2021
  • Rolling admission: 26.10.2020 – 30.05.2021

Regular admission has a shorter application period and has more requirements, as shown in the next section. If you apply for regular admission, you can have access to more scholarships. Rolling admission has fewer requirements and the application period is open until the end of May 2021.

The following requirements are both for regular and rolling admission.

Educational background for Business Administration

Applicants who have completed a qualification outside Finland must submit the following documents to Edunation:

  • Bachelor’s degree certificate from a related field (business) with at least 24 ECTS credits in the field of your chosen master’s program
  • Transcript of Records, with a minimum score of 3.5 on the scale of 1.0-5.0
  • A document explaining the credit system used during the bachelor studies

Copies for the educational documents have to be officially certified. Whenever the degree has been completed in a certain country, there may be country-specific requirements for document certification involved.

Educational background for Technology

  • Bachelor’s degree certificate from a related field (engineering, technology, sciences) with at least 24 ECTS credits in the field of your chosen master’s program
  • Transcript of Records, with a minimum score of 3.0 on the scale of 1.0-5.0
  • A document explaining the credit system used during the bachelor studies

Proof of nationality

  • Passport ID page OR official ID card indicating nationality

Note: You will need a valid passport when you apply for a visa or residence permit.

Language requirements

A proof of English proficiency is required for all degrees at LUT University. You will need to take at least one of these tests with the following scores:

  • IELTS: 6.0
  • TOEFL iBT: 80
  • TOEFL pBT: 550
  • TOEFL cBT: 213
  • Revised TOEFL Paper-delivered Test: 60
  • PTE academic: 54
  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE): C

The language certificate must be valid during the application period. The Pearson test of English, IELTS and TOEFL certificates are valid for two years. There are no limitations on the period of validity of the other certificates. A TOEFL test score will only be accepted if it has been directly submitted from the TOEFL Educational Testing Service (ETS). Edunation’s TOEFL code is C046.

Language test is not required if bachelor’s degree has been completed in English in an EU/EEA country, Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the USA.

GMAT/GRE (only business programs)

Regular admission: If your bachelor degree is not related to a business field, you must submit GMAT/GRE Test results:

  • GMAT: 550 OR
  • GRE General Test: Verbal Reasoning 152 + Quantitative Reasoning 152 + Analytical Writing 3.0

Rolling admission: for master studies in business, you must submit GMAT/GRE Test results:

  • GMAT: 550 OR
  • GRE General Test: Verbal Reasoning 152 + Quantitative Reasoning 152 + Analytical Writing 3.0

Tuition Fees & Scholarship

Tuition Fees

Students who are from a non-EU/EEA country are required to pay a tuition fee.

  • Bachelor’s degree programs: 9 500 € per academic year
  • Master’s degree programs: 10 000 € per academic year

Scholarships

Early Bird Fee (rolling admission)

If you accept your study place and pay the total tuition fee within two weeks from the offer, you will receive a 25 % discount from the tuition fee. The amount of early-bird tuition fee is EUR 7 500. This is valid only for master studies. 

Bachelor’s degree scholarship

  • 1st academic year, there are no Tuition Fee Waivers available
  • 2nd academic year, 50% Tuition Fee Waiver will be granted for the students successfully completing the studies on the first academic year (min.of 60 ECTS credits)
  • 3rd academic year, 100% Tuition Fee Waiver will be granted for the students successfully completing the studies on the first and second academic year (min.of 60 ECTS credits/year)

Master’s degree scholarship

During your 2nd academic year, you can have a tuition fee waiver:

  • 50% Tuition fee waiver with a minimum of 60 ECTS credits with a minimum GPA of 3.75 OR
  • 100 % Tuition fee waiver with a minimum of 60 ECTS credits with a minimum GPA of 4.00
