Overview
The Bachelor of Science in Technology – Chemical and Process Engineering programme trains students to apply chemistry, physics, and mathematics to develop sustainable and energy-efficient technologies. Graduates gain expertise in process development and separation technologies, which are essential in industries such as water purification, metal and mineral processing, biomass, and food production. The programme emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, providing hands-on experience in modern laboratories and industrial-scale applications.
Students completing this degree can continue into advanced studies in chemical engineering at LUT or participate in prestigious international master’s programmes, such as the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s in Sustainable Biomass and Bioproducts Engineering (SBBE) or the EIT-labelled Master’s in Entrepreneurship, Innovation and Technology Integration in Mining (MEITIM).

Graduates of this programme will be able to:
- Apply principles of chemistry, physics, and mathematics to industrial and process engineering challenges.
- Design, operate, and optimise processes and equipment using modern simulation tools and laboratory techniques.
- Develop sustainable solutions in energy, materials, water, and food production.
- Conduct research, problem-solving, and project-based teamwork in both academic and industrial settings.
- Integrate circular economy principles and sustainability considerations into engineering practices.
- Build practical skills in process safety, quality control, product development, and operational management.
The programme spans three years, leading to a Bachelor of Science in Technology, comprising 180 ECTS credits. The curriculum includes:
- General studies: fundamentals of chemistry, natural sciences, technology, and basic chemical and process engineering.
- Intermediate specialisation studies: chemical and process engineering in green energy production, energy storage, biomass and raw material utilisation, metals and minerals recovery, water purification, and food industry processes.
- Minor studies: optional courses in business, social sciences, or other fields.
- Language and communication studies: any language courses offered at LUT.
- Bachelor’s thesis: a research project completed during the final semester.
The programme combines lectures, calculation and simulation exercises, laboratory work, and project-based teamwork to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills.
Graduates are prepared for entry-level and professional roles across a variety of industries, including chemical, energy, battery, food, biotechnology, paper and pulp, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and metal refining. Possible positions include:
- Process Designer in the Chemical Industry
- Forensic Engineer at the National Bureau of Investigation
- Environmental Protection Specialist
- Project Manager in the Forest Industry
- Research Director in Metallurgical Industry
- Development Engineer in the Food Industry
- Professor at International Universities
Graduates are also well-positioned for international careers due to the global demand for experts in sustainable processes, clean water, waste management, and circular economy solutions.
