The curriculum offers comprehensive knowledge of materials from the perspective of current research and practical application. The knowledge you acquire can be applied to various related areas within mechanical engineering, such as sustainable manufacturing technologies and construction engineering.

The research cover materials science, advanced metallic materials, ceramics, carbon-based materials, polymers, biopolymers, and minerals. Macro/micro/nano material size effects on structure are considered. Different study modules emphasize resource- and energy-efficient material processing. Composite, additive, and welding-made mixed materials are prioritized.

Materials science and production engineering are combined in this unique Finnish Master’s degree. It emphasizes material knowledge and engineering skills through project-based learning. Finnish and international industry collaborate on projects.

You will comprehend material selection and production technology solutions in multi-disciplinary product design after graduating from this program. You will learn to analyze and integrate dependability, manufacturability, and material selection of metallic, composite, nano, hybrid, and adaptive structures or machine elements.

2. Learn how to use modeling tools to guess how the process, microstructure, qualities, and performance of metals and composites will work in various engineering situations;

3. Know how choosing the right material affects the design of a product; – Know how to describe ideas and things that are related to high-performance products and make the best use of nano and hybrid materials.

4. Know the main ideas behind the circular economy, the flow of materials (from raw materials to making to recycling and reusing at the end of life), and the things that are pushing people to make changes.

The Master’s Programme in Materials Science and Technology lasts two years. It leads to the Master of Science in Technology, or M.Sc. (Tech.), with 120 ECTS credits.

The curriculum includes core, advanced specialization, and elective courses, as well as a Master’s thesis.
