Overview

The Master’s Program in Mechatronics teaches how to use AI to operate equipment and processes, including maintenance, services, and programming. Digital twins, autonomous machine systems, and user interface development and usability will be covered.

The Master of Mechatronics program covers mechatronic system theory and practice, robotics, programming, control, digitalization, and simulation.

Mechanical engineering, electronics, control systems, software, and programming are used in mechatronics to study sensors and actuators. Mechatronics innovates industrial automation, robots, autonomous cars, and other smart machines by bridging disciplines.

Courses cover applied mathematics, fluid power, reliability-based engineering, and digitalization. Lectures, exercises, and labs are typical. Industry issues like automation are often the subject of lab work.

The program will teach you how to develop mechatronic machines, machine systems, user interfaces, and control systems.

Obtain:

1. Expertise in mechatronic system design, control system applications, alternative drive solution energy efficiency, robotic system design, digital methodologies, and product life cycle tools;

2. Multidisciplinary project work skills to collaborate with technical specialists and comprehend business, energy efficiency, sustainability, and environmental friendliness.

Participants in theoretical and methodological courses incorporated into regional company projects will learn to identify problems from many angles and solve them optimally using mechatronic systems;

3. Expertise in cost-effective and sustainable mechatronic system development and design for global industry. Mathematics, computer simulation, programming, and IT-technology for mechatronic systems and machines will be taught.

You’ll also learn to write efficient, clear, and manageable engineering code using high-level linear algebra software, use reliability-based measures for mechatronic systems, apply risk analysis tools and techniques, and reduce failure probability.

4. A professional network through real mechatronics system design projects with Finnish and European enterprises. Real-life industrial company cases will be assigned.

The two-year Master’s Programme in Mechatronics results in a Master of Science in Technology, M.Sc. (Tech.), with a total of 120 ECTS credits.

The program consists of core studies, advanced specialization studies, elective studies, and a master’s thesis.

The programme covers electrical, hydraulic, and hybrid power transmission systems in both theory and practice. The purpose is to teach you how to enhance energy and material efficiency by utilizing mechatronic systems. Furthermore, the program addresses environmental issues and the overall sustainability of machine systems.

For your elective studies, you might choose courses related to business, the environment, or the Internet of Things. As a result, the training broadens your understanding of strategic industrial thinking. In addition, you can incorporate an industry internship into your personal study schedule.

Lectures and exercises are delivered both online via the Moodle platform and on campus. Contact instruction is primarily conducted on the Lahti campus, with some laboratory tutorials performed on the Lappeenranta campus.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering’s laboratories and other facilities are primarily located in Lappeenranta, while some are also available in Lahti. This curriculum is suited for people who work full-time due to its blended learning format.

The demand for mechatronics specialists is increasing as a result of new technical advances and their significance in the development of our society.

Graduates of the curriculum can pursue a wide range of careers in industrial organizations as design engineers, design managers, product designers, or production developers. The programme will provide you with good skills for working as a researcher in a variety of businesses or continuing your academic studies to the PhD level.
