Metropolia UAS’ Degree Programme in Laboratory Science aims to provide students with comprehensive knowledge and skills in chemical and biological laboratory research. The program, spanning 3.5 years with 210 ECTS credits, focuses on creating proficient laboratory analysts capable of performing, developing, and validating advanced analytical methods in chemistry and biology. Students gain hands-on experience through approximately half of their contact teaching conducted in state-of-the-art laboratories.

The curriculum integrates theory and practical exercises, covering diverse fields such as food safety, water and air quality, forensics, quality assurance, pathogenic microbe detection, and instrumental analysis. Students can choose 15 elective credits in subjects like sustainability, programming, leadership, procurement, or language studies. The program includes a five-month internship in a company or research institute, as well as a final thesis project in collaboration with a partner organization. Graduates are well-prepared for various career paths, including research, product development, quality control management, sales, marketing, and supervision.

As a Bachelor of Laboratory Services, graduates can pursue roles such as laboratory analyst, quality specialist, laboratory researcher, coordinator, or validation specialist. The program’s international collaboration provides opportunities for exchanges with European universities specializing in forensic and environmental science, offering a global perspective. Additionally, graduates have the option to apply for university master’s programs related to chemistry and biology, opening doors to further academic success.
