The programme develops engineers who can innovate, automate, and transform industrial processes for a sustainable future. Students will:

  • Build strong mathematical and scientific foundations as a basis for advanced technical learning.
  • Master core knowledge in automation, robotics, AI, and machine mechanics.
  • Develop teamwork, problem-solving, and communication skills valued by employers.
  • Gain intercultural competence by studying in an international environment.

Apply theory through project-based learning, work placements, and industry collaborations.

The programme combines theory with hands-on practice in a flexible, blended-learning format:

  • Mode of Studies: A mix of classroom days, online learning, small group work, and independent study. Periodical in-person sessions require attendance, while online components offer flexibility for students balancing work or other responsibilities.
  • Years 1–2: A shared curriculum covering mathematics, science, programming, automation, AI, mechanics, languages, communication, and project work. Includes work placements to connect theory with practice.
  • Years 3–4: Flexible specialisation modules allow students to deepen expertise in fields such as industrial robots, autonomous robots, drones, hospital robots, or agricultural robots. Studies conclude with advanced work placements and a bachelor’s thesis.

Students also benefit from Metropolia’s innovation hubs and industry partnerships, where they can contribute to research and development projects alongside professionals.

Graduates are highly sought after across industries where robotics and automation are transforming operations. Career prospects include roles in industrial plants, design and consultancy firms, healthcare, agriculture, aeronautics, and beyond.

Possible job titles include:

  • Robotics Engineer
  • Robotics Technician / Operator
  • Project Engineer / Project Manager
  • Automation Engineer
  • Software or Design Engineer
  • Technical Sales Engineer / Key Account Manager
  • Aerospace Engineer

Through hands-on projects, internships, and thesis work, students build strong professional networks, making them ready to contribute directly to industry innovation and development.
