Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology offers you an excellent combination of basic and professional courses. You will get a solid basis to work as an engineer both in Finland and abroad. As a graduated engineer you have a broad technological knowledge and understanding of the field of Information Technology and core engineering subjects.

You will also gain knowledge in mathematics and natural sciences that is needed in your future career. You will be able to communicate both orally and in writing in engineering surroundings.

You will earn skills to operate in working life and will be innovative and have entrepreneurial skills to reach the professional goals.

You will learn the basics in engineering subjects such as mathematics and physics. Professional studies will strengthen your engineering skills in addition to languages and communication skills and business courses that will top-up your competence.

You will be linked to working-life throughout your studies via industry-related projects, work placement periods and a Final Year Project. This gives you a chance to create useful networks and plan your future career while studying.

You will choose your major option during your first study year. You may choose major option out of the two options offered in Information Technology.

Major option will give you an in-depth insight into the subject areas that are relevant and up-to-date in each major option. You can also widen your knowledge in any other major options by taking it as a minor option in your engineering studies.

These are your major alternatives:

  • In Mobile Solutions you will learn to design visually outstanding web, hybrid and native applications for smart phones and tablets using the same methods and tools as the top software companies.
  • Smart IoT Systems major study program gives you an insight to the computer systems and cloud services including Internet of Things. After second year you can focus more in detail to the smart devices or to the cloud services and communication technologies. Communication networks and Cloud Computing study focus gives you an insight to the world of computer network technologies, server systems and cloud services. You can put the learnt theory into practice in data communication laboratory which are based on IP-networking, server systems and mobile networks.

You will also need to conduct Bachelor Thesis and have an internship as a part of your studies.

You can have many different career and further study paths after your graduation.

Your future job may range from systems, software and hardware design to consultingproduct support and management positions.

After graduation you may work for example as a software developer, a software designer or as a product manager in media and ICT-field companies, in communication and marketing companies, in software houses and digital marketing agencies or as an entrepreneur.

Many of Metropolia UAS graduates also pursue for further studies in various Master-level studies in prestigious universities both in Finland and abroad.
