The Master’s degree program in Business Informatics is designed for business and engineering professionals seeking to enhance their strategic and managerial abilities through the effective utilization of business information systems. The program prepares participants to tackle the challenges posed by digitalization and digital transformation in both business and professional contexts. 

 Graduates will acquire the skills to analyze and proficiently utilize business information for making decisions, managing business operations, and driving business development. Engineering students will gain familiarity with essential business principles and models, learn data collection, interpretation, and analysis techniques, and develop the capability to provide solutions to critical business inquiries.

Students in the program benefit from a diverse and business-oriented environment, with some participants being full-time working professionals from various backgrounds. The teaching methods encompass online and contact sessions, class discussions, teamwork, self-study, business simulations, workshops, and seminars. Instruction is provided by staff and experts with both business and academic experience. The program brings together engineering and business professionals in a cross-disciplinary group, with engineering and technology-educated individuals assigned to the Engineering stream and business-educated students to the Business stream. Despite the separate streams, both groups study together, provided that applicants choose the correct stream during the application process. 

The Master’s Degree Programme in Business Informatics focuses on enhancing business skills in the context of technology-driven companies in the digital age. 

  The curriculum includes advanced professional studies, consisting of Business Strategy and Management (15 ECTS) and Business Analysis and Development (15 ECTS).  A significant component of the program is the Master’s Thesis, which involves planning and implementing an R&D project, typically within the student’s own workplace.   Master’s theses in this program often revolve around topics like digital transformation, data analytics, business information systems, digitization of operations and customer experiences, business intelligence, and marketing research. 

  Students receive support and guidance from the school throughout the thesis process, including a structured 7-GATE approach, continuous guidance, and instruction on research methods and problem-solving skills.    Success in completing the Master’s thesis depends on the student’s education, motivation, and hard work.

The students are admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. 

    • a Bachelor’s degree or another appropriate higher education degree
    • at least two years of subsequent work experience in a relevant field. In order to be eligible, applicants must have 24 months (two years) of work experience in the field of business and commerce accumulated as from the date of award of the final degree certificate and obtained no later than 31 December 2023.
    • Work experience is given in full months. When converting part-time work (work under 35 hours per week) into its full-time equivalent, 150 hours or 20 working days lasting at least 7 hours per day correspond to one month of work. Work experience does not have to be continuous or obtained with the same employer. The amount of work experience points awarded for simultaneous employment relationships may not exceed the amount awarded for full-time employment.
    • Proof of English skills: IELTS 6.0, TOEFL IBT 60-78, Pearson PTE 54, Duolingo 105-115, Cambridge English Advanced (CAE) 169 + English speaking countries if prior education in English
    • Entrepreneurship will be accepted as work experience if an applicant can produce a certificate attesting that he or she is or has been covered under the statutory YEL or MYEL pension scheme. (YEL = statutory pension scheme for entrepreneurs; MYEL = statutory pension scheme for farmers, forest estate owners, fishers and reindeer herders and their family members). Enterprising activities abroad should be substantiated with comparable official documents.
    • Work experience must be verifiable with official work certificates (employment contracts are not taken into account).
