Overview

Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) is an international higher education institution situated in the region of Satakunta in the beautiful coastal area of Finland. The university offers a large selection of bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in the fields of international business, health care, tourism, and IT.

7 bachelor’s degrees are conducted entirely in English, with online and on-campus studies.

During the studies, international students have the opportunity to apply their knowledge with internships and projects together with companies and organizations. Satakunta University of Applied Sciences

Currently, there are approximately 6000 enrolled students and 400 employees. Out of the students, more than 300 are international exchange and degree students, coming from 60 different countries. HOW TO APPLY

The application process is fast and simple. The students are pre-screened on a first-come, first-served basis which means that if you meet the eligibility requirements, Edunation forwards your application to the university. The university processes the applications and makes the final admission decision within 4-6 weeks.

Educational background

Applicants who have completed a qualification outside Finland must submit the following documents to Edunation:

  • Copy of the final/official higher secondary school certificate or vocational qualification which gives eligibility for higher education studies in your own country
  • Transcript of records with a GPA 50% or above. This is required to be able to apply through Edunation.
  • Optional: IELTS 6.0 or quivalent language test result, which gives the applicant one extra point in the student selection process

Note: All documents need to be translated to either Finnish, Swedish or English if the original document is in none of those languages. The translations need to be signed and stamped by an authorized translator.

Note: You will need a valid passport when you apply for a visa or residence permit.

Online exam and interview

Only for Nursing.

Applicants must pass an online exam and online interview to be admitted to the program.

Written exam measures applicant’s learning skills, mathematical skills, motivation and understanding of written English. In addition, the applicant is required to upload a video presentation to the entrance examination platform. The time for taking the written exam is limited.

In the online interview, the applicant’s skills of understanding and producing spoken English are measured. Applicant is given a time of 20 minutes for the interview by invitation – the applicant cannot change the date and the time of the interview.

Other entrance examinations

Only for Industrial Management and Logistics.

The student selection is completed with an online entrance examination course during spring 2021. To pass the course, the applicant must score at least 35 out of 100 points,and tasks must be returned by the given deadline.

 

SAMK evaluates all applications and student selection is made based on the applicant’s former study success. Online entrance exam is organized only for the Bachelor’s program in Nursing. Applicants to all other programs are evaluated separately by scoring their study certificate, possible language test scores, and their country of origin.

Tuitions Fees & Scholarship

Tuition Fees

Students who are from non-EU/EEA countries are required to pay a tuition fee of 10 500 € per year for a Bachelor’s degree program in Artificial Intelligence and 9 500 € per year for all the other Bachelor’s programs. The tuition fee can be paid in two installments. The first half of the payment is due when the applicant accepts the study place at SAMK.

Scholarships

‘The amount of scholarship is 50% of the tuition fee. The scholarship is available only during the optimum study time of the study degree.

The minimum requirements for receiving a scholarship are:

  • You have completed at least 55 ECTS credits during the academic year when you apply for the scholarship
  • The weighted grade point (GPA) average for the studies completed during the academic year is at least 3.5 / 5

In addition, you should belong to the best 20 % of your class according to the weighted GPA. Your class consists of all students who have started their studies the same year with you and who have completed studies during the academic year in question.

The studies accepted by the recognition of prior learning are counted both in the number of credits and in the GPA according to the grading date.

You can apply for the scholarship at the end of the academic year by June 15. The decisions are made and the scholarships paid by July 15.

If you graduate during your optimum study time in the autumn semester, you should apply for the scholarship by December 31. The decisions are made and the scholarships paid by January 31.
