Overview

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology offers you an excellent combination of basic and professional courses. You will get a solid basis to work as an engineer both in Finland and abroad. As an IT student in Vaasa University of Applied Sciences (VAMK) you will become familiar with:

  • Software Engineering, where you learn to apply modern designing and programming methods for development of information systems
  • Embedded Systems, which includes product development and programming for electronics devices, as well as connecting electronics devices to data networks.

Information Technology is everywhere and electronic, media and household devices need it in able to work properly. In other words, almost every part of our everyday lives needs IT.

Objectives

As a graduated engineer you will have a broad technological knowledge and understanding of the field of Information Technology and core engineering subjects and knowledge in mathematics and natural sciences that is needed in your future career. You will also be able to communicate both orally and in writing in engineering surroundings and earn skills to operate in working life and will be innovative and have entrepreneurial skills to reach the professional goals.

Structure

In VAMK you will learn the basics in engineering subjects such as mathematics and physics. Professional studies will strengthen your engineering skills in addition to languages and communication skills and business courses that will top-up your competence.

You will be linked to working-life throughout your studies via industry-related projects, work placement periods and a Final Year Project. In VAMK you will also complete 30 ECTS in practical training. This gives you a chance to create useful networks and plan your future career while studying.

Career opportunities

After graduation you will have the competence to work in positions within design, research, production, marketing and product development in the fields of electronics and information technology. You are able to work as international expert in export companies or as independent entrepreneur.

Your future job may range from product developer, programming to electronics design and telecommunicating positions.
