Lock-down Playlist: Finnish Pop Music

“Music is a language that doesn’t speak in particular words. It speaks in emotions, and if it’s in the bones, it’s in the bones.” ― Keith Richards

Besides the thing that Finnish heavy metal musics are very trendy and widely popular all around the world, Finnish pop musics seem to be a charming muse because its lyrical, magical and beautiful. Therefore, I would like to pick up some of my favorite and popular Finnish pop songs/singers for your playlist. You will be hypnotized by their enchanting melodies and maybe sing along to as well! 😀

Suvi Teräsniska

Suvi Teräsniska is a Finnish female pop singer, who has many successful songs and albums. All her songs have a melody of Schlager pop – music stylebringing about simple, rightful, and often sentimental lyrics for audiences.

Varpunen Jouluaamuna(Sparrow on Christmas Morning)

Not English lyric translation yet. However, from what I feel, the lyric tells us about the typical winter nature of Finland, from snows, ices, trees and also about Finnish people’s life and the humanity. All things are perfectly combined to convey the meaningful message of having a life purpose. Moreover, she has sang many other good songs that you should listen to on her YouTube channel.

Juha Tapio

Following is a male Finnish singer, lyricist, composer and guitarist, Juha Tapio. His musical career began so earlier when he was 13 years old, hence he has gained much experience in his field. In addition, he sings not only rock genre but also pop music as well. You can see the English lyrics translation here to deeply feel the whole song.

Ressu Redford

Esa Mäkelä is the real name of Ressu Redford and he is another Finnish talented singer, who sings a variety kind of music genre, such as pop, rock and dance musics. Like Juha Tapio, he has long music career path when he started playing musical instruments in high school. The song I  recommend for you below is the nice collaboration between Ressu and Jussi Rainio – who is the vocalist member of the pop band Neon 2.

Meille Jatkamaan/To my place…

Well, the music video’s content is about a 2 mature couple and their love line with many levels of emotion. Enjoy the music video!

Antti Ketonen

Antti is a singer from the band Neljänsuora, and he has his first solo on 2019 with the single Niin Kaunis. Let’s listen to his warm voice and be mesmerize by the English lyric meaning.

Niin Kaunis/So Beautiful

Helmi Antila

Helmi Antila sang the song “Rakastan tätä maata”, which firstly sang by Petri Laaksonen, who is the great artist of Finland. Interestingly, I know this song by chance as Suomen Keskusta’s ad run on Youtube; the charming melody and lyric stayed on my head the first time I listened to it.

“Minä rakastan tätä maata, se on karu ja kaunis niin…♥ Yes,  after listening to this song, I love Finland more and more!

Rakastan tätä maata/I Love This Country

“Ah, music,” he said, wiping his eyes. “A magic beyond all we do here!”
― J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Hopefully, my Finnish pop music’s taste will help you find yourself another reason to love Finland more and find an interesting leisure activity even during these uncertain times.
