Steps to Extend the Residence Permit

After each year, you should apply for an extended permit as your previous residence permit (RP) is going to expire. Likewise, you can extend your permit residence in 2 years. Remember that you just can apply for an extended permit only in Finland, it means that you cannot do it abroad. Here are some important things needed for renewing your RP.

Preparation of E-service form

The first thing to do is you should access to enterfinland.fi and choose extended residence permit option, then use your previous account, which was used to first extend permit residence to log in. If you do not remember your old account, you can create a new one. Next is choosing one of these three options: work, studies or family.

Checking the E-service progress

After visiting the service point in person, you should wait and check the progress of getting a decision through the website. Normally, it takes about 1-5 weeks to get the online decision, depending on the processing time of your service point. Then wait the next 2-3 weeks to receive the announcement letterso as you can pick up your RP card at post (post office) in your area. Remember to bring your passport when picking it up at posti.

The most vital things to remember are having well – prepared docs, being on – time at the appointment, and be patient!
