Wanted: International Talent in Finland

Did you know? Finland is one of the most promising countries to develop your entrepreneurial and IT skills!

Tampere Boost Summit 2018 offered a deep insight into this new and developing market system, with a particular focus on the valuable resource of international talents’ knowledge and experiences.

In the past years, the employment rate in Finland has significantly increased and, reversely, the unemployment decreased from last year:

“The number of unemployed people in September 2018 was 170,000, which was 44,000 lower than one year ago. (…). The number of employed people was 72,000 higher in September 2018 than one year ago.”

Statistics Finland’s Labour Force Survey

However, though the numbers are promising, one of the biggest challenges that the Finnish market is facing is the high and increasing demand for specialized skilled workers in the ICT sector.

The demand for IT specialists, such as Security Operations Analysts, SOC Engineers and the like, in many Finnish companies are hardly met due to lack of IT certified professionals in the country. Indeed, according to the Director General of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment Antti Neimala: “We need 53 000 new technology experts by 2021, over 10 000 new Software Developers in coming four years and over 30 000 workers and experts for Maritime cluster and Car manufacturing in South-West Finland”.

As a result, Finnish companies are starting to look for international talent who can fulfill this huge gap in such a short time. Many Finnish international businesses are interested in international employees not just for their knowledge, but also because they believe that multi-cultural background is a valuable asset to improve the company’s efficiency and global competencies.

“We can’t be global if we don’t diversify the company.”

Director KP Hiltunen, Neogames

International talent will be needed more in the future. We encourage job-seekers and talented students to come to Finland and to make a difference!

 “Diversity brings innovation.”
