At Helsinki School of Business, you can earn a bachelor’s degree in Business and Management at an accelerated pace.   • Objectives

    The curriculum at HELBUS has been designed to provide you with the knowledge and experience you need to be able to succeed in international business.

    In years one and two, you will develop a strong foundation in diverse areas of business and management, such as marketing, finance, entrepreneurship, human resource management and organizational behavior, and learn how these are integrated within the wider the business environment.

    In your third year, you will expand on these competencies and develop your theoretical and practice knowledge in the core fields, while simultaneously advancing your individual and group skills.

    In the first two years, you will earn 120 ECTS – over 15 modules. In the third year, you will study an additional six modules worth 60 ECTS.

    HELBUS prepares students for the transition to their future careers through a curriculum that provides a strong practical skills base in addition to developing the requisite theoretical knowledge and understanding necessary to achieve success in global business.

    Having studied the bachelor’s degree in English, students graduate well-equipped to use English in the real-world business environment and have a strong grasp of business terminology. HELBUS students have a good track record of employability, with many achieving a flying start in their careers already after the second year of studies.

    You can specialize in management, where you help companies create and execute strategies to reach their goals with the help of individuals and teams. If you study finance, you could help companies find ways to finance their investments, or invest their funds in productive assets. Studying human resource management will give you the understanding and tools to recruit the right people into the company, and improve the team work mechanisms and organizational structure in the company. Studying marketing will enable you to identify the needs of clients, resulting in product development and appropriate communication to the target market.

    After graduation, you may end up working in Finland or abroad, in the service, trade, industrial, or entertainment sector, in a small or large company, or perhaps in your own start-up.

    • Business and the Business Environment

    Provides a fundamental knowledge and understanding of business, the functions of an organization and the wider business environments in which organizations operate.

    • Marketing Essentials

    Introduces the principles of marketing, requiring learners to develop a basic marketing plan and to employ elements of the marketing mix to achieve results.

    • Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management

    Outlines the definition and scope of entrepreneurship, including the importance of external influences, the personal characteristics and situational factors of successful entrepreneurs, the concept of risk and reward and the significance of small firms to the national economy, in addition to analyzing the enablers and barriers to business start-up.

    • Human Resource Management

    Enables students to appreciate and apply principles of effective and flexible human resource management throughout the HR cycle, and visits the tools and techniques used to maximize employee contribution and gain competitive advantage.

    • Management and Operations

    Contrasts the characteristics, behaviors and traits which support effective management and leadership in addition to introducing the concept of operations as both a function and a process that all organizations must adopt to conduct business.

    • Innovation and Commercialisation

    Equips students with a comprehensive understanding of innovation and commercialization and introduces the tools necessary to maximize Return on Investment (ROI), drive innovation and remain competitive in the market.

    • Management Accounting

    Introduces the fundamentals of management accounting as they apply to the wider business environment and explores how management accounting uses financial data to aid planning decisions and the monitoring and control of finance within organizations.

    • Managing a Successful Business Project

    Develops the skills required for managing, implementing and presenting an independent research  project in an acceptable and understandable format to various stakeholders.

  • Year 2
    • Launching a New Venture

    Provides a practical understanding of what is required to successfully launch a new venture and details the importance of attracting customers, competitive advantage, budgeting, forecasting cash flow and growing a network of knowledge and resources.

    • Organisational Behaviour

    Analyzes the influence culture, politics and power has on the behavior of individuals, teams and organizations as a whole, and discusses how to use this knowledge to make an immediate and positive contribution in the workplace; whether that role is as part of a team or as a team leader.

    • Research Project Parts I & II

    Allows students to explore and examine a relevant and current topical aspect of business in the context of the business environment and their own personal fields of interest.

    • Pitching and Negotiation Skills

    Provides a comprehensive overview of the essential pitching and negotiation skills required to win new contracts on agreeable terms as a prerequisite for generating favorable sales and networking opportunities.

    • Developing Individuals, Teams and Organisations

    Demonstrates that developing  knowledge and skills to achieve high performance is a cross-organization activity and explores the contexts in which learning takes place in order to use professional development as a tool to improve individual and team efficiency and to support organizational strategy.

    • International Marketing

    Introduces a variety of methods organizations use to coordinate their international marketing efforts and highlights the importance of critically evaluating the various cultural, regulatory and political challenges faced when doing so.

    • Sales Management

    Evaluates the changing dynamics between buyers and sellers in the context of an environment that forces organizations to review and adapt their sales management approach in response to the fast-paced evolution of e-commerce, globalization and a customer driven culture.

  • Year 3
    • Accounting and Finance for Managers

    Explores core aspects of accounting and finance, including financial reporting, management accounting and financial management.

    • Business Communication

    Learners engage in effective communication in various business environments by developing awareness of different cultural approaches in business situations and appropriate language demands, both spoken and written.

    • Business Project

    Requires the learner to complete a piece of independent, supervised study that will complement the taught program and showcase a detailed understanding of all business issues within the framework.

    • Principles of Marketing Management

    Examines in depth the tactical tools available to marketing managers for the management of the controlled variables, as typified by the marketing mix, through the exploration of key marketing concepts.

    • Strategic Human Resource Management

    Introduces strategic issues and trends in the subject with a focus on understanding enablers and barriers to the implementation of HR strategy and critical evaluation of human resource policy and its practical implementations across wide-ranging business scenarios.

    • Strategic Management

    Identifies concepts, theories and current issues across strategic management such as corporate objectives, industry and company analysis, strategic trends and drivers and disruptive innovation, in order to provide learners with a deeper understanding of the underlying issues.
