Global supply networks and supply chains around the world are essential part of today’s business. Extracting competitiveness and increasing sustainability for a company from its supply networks and chains requires special skills, competencies and tools for exploring and managing global supply networks.

Supply management is a unique Master’s program in Finland providing expertise of strategic supply and supplier management. The program is designed to correspond to the growing needs of today’s business life in terms of educating open-minded, innovative managers in the fields of supply management and purchasing.

  • Objective

    As a Supply Management graduate, you will have an integrative approach to different business disciplines and functions of a firm and will be able to analyze and solve complex business problems arising in the field of supply management.

    You will be an expert in the field of supply management. You will have strong analytical skills and will be able to apply tools required for professional practices to manage supply chains and supplier relationships.

    You will have global perspective on business and will be able to recognize the global supply network risks, challenges and opportunities. You will attain a foundation for doctoral studies and for continuous professional and intellectual growth.

  • Structure

    The studies connect two perspectives: the internal viewpoint of organising and aligning supply management according to the firm’s strategy, and the external viewpoint consisting of supplier relationships and supply network management.

    The programme includes core studies, specialisation studies, minor studies and language studies.

    Core studies (42  ECTS credits) include courses on strategic supply management and supply chain financing, sustainable global sourcing, supplier relationship management and service business.

    Specialisation studies (48 ECTS credits) ) include courses on topics concerning risk management and supply chain improvement, and external resource management.

    Minor studies (minimum 24 ECTS credits) include courses on either international marketing, knowledge and innovation management, entrepreneurship, sustainability, or business analytics.

    Language studies, 6 ECTS credits.

    The Master’s thesis and seminar, 30 ECTS credits, is a part of specialization studies. The thesis is an advanced research project, which requires approximately six months of full-time work. It is completed during the fourth semester of the degree program.

    Double degree studies for LUT degree students

    The MSM program also offers students a possibility for double degree studies.

    The MSM double degree partner university is University of Twente, The Netherlands.

    Students admitted to complete the Master’s degree in the MSM program at LUT are eligible to apply to the double degree program.

    Students admitted to the double degree program receive a degree certificate from two universities after they have fulfilled the degree requirements of both universities.

    Double degree studies for students from partner universities

    Students from partner universities are able to study as a double degree student at LUT.

    MSM’s double degree partner universities are:

    • University of Twente, The Netherlands
    • Higher School of Economics, Russia

    Students admitted to the double degree program receive a degree certificate from two universities after they have fulfilled the degree requirements of both universities.

    Many career opportunities will open up to you. You can find specialist and management positions in both the public and private sectors, as well as in global and local companies in the fields of supply management, international business, logistics, supply chain management and consulting.

    Examples of such positions include global sourcing director, supply manager, category manager and strategic buyer.
