Satakunta University of Applied Sciences (SAMK) is an international higher education institution situated in the region of Satakunta on the beautiful coastal area of Finland. The school has campuses in the picturesque towns of Pori and Rauma. The campus in Pori is brand new and opened its door for students in autumn 2017. It combines innovative Finnish design and functionality in a way that aims to enhance the student experience.

Currently, there are approximately 6000 enrolled students and 400 employees. Out of the students, more than 300 are international exchange and degree students, coming from 60 different countries. The atmosphere at SAMK is truly international, and people from all over the world have sought after their top-quality degree programs. It is also one of the universities in Finland with scholarships for international students.  Moreover, SAMK has great overseas relations, and over 160 partner universities worldwide.

Satakunta University of Applied Sciences

SAMK’s focus areas are Automation, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, Maritime Management and Services for the Ageing. Emerging areas are Intelligent Water and Energy Technology, Logistics and Tourism.

Tuition fees

Students who are from non-EU/EEA countries are required to pay a tuition fee of 9500 € per academic year for both bachelor’s and master’s degree programs in English and 10 500 € per year for bachelor’s degree programs in AI and Robotics.The first payment needs to be done when the applicant accepts his study place at the university.

 

Scholarships

Scholarships are available only for students who are required to pay tuition fees. The amount of scholarship is 50% of the tuition fee (4 750 € / AI and Robotics: 5 250 €). The scholarship is available only during the optimum study time of the degree.

The minimum requirements for receiving a scholarship are:

  • You have completed at least 55 ECTS credits during the academic year when you apply for the a scholarship
  • The weighted grade point average for the studies completed during the academic year is at least 3.5

In addition, you should belong to the best 20 % of your classes according to the weighted grade point average. Your class consists of all students who have started their studies the same year with you and who have completed studies during the academic year in question.

The studies accepted by the recognition of prior learning are counted both in the amount of credits and in the grade point average according to the grading date.

You can apply for the scholarship at the end of the academic year by June 15. The decisions are made and the scholarships paid by July 15.

If you graduate during your optimum study time in the autumn semester, you should apply for the scholarship by December 31. The decisions are made and the scholarships paid by January 31.

The application process is fast and simple. The students are accepted on a first come, first served basis which means that if you meet the admission requirements, you can get your acceptance already in 4 weeks.

  • Admission requirements for bachelor's degree

    Educational background

    Applicants who have completed a qualification outside Finland must submit the following documents to Edunation:

    • Copy of the final/official higher secondary school certificate or vocational qualification which gives eligibility for higher education studies in your own country
    • Transcript of records

    Proof of nationality

    • Passport ID page OR
    • Official ID card indicating nationality

    Note: You will need a valid passport when you apply for a visa or residence permit.

    Online exam

    The online entrance exam measures your learning skills, logical-mathematical skills and understanding of written English.

    You can only take the online exam once.

    Interview

    Applicants for International Business and Nursing will be invited for an online interview if they pass the written exam.

    In the interview, your skills of understanding and producing spoken English are measured. You are given a time of 20 minutes for the interview by invitation. You can’t change the date and the time of the interview.

    Motivation video

    Applicants for International Tourism Management are required to submit a motivation video. The video is submitted as part of the exam. More instructions will be given to eligible applicants before the online exam.

    Note: All documents need to be translated to either Finnish, Swedish or English if the original document is in none of those languages. The translations need to be signed and stamped by an authorized translator.

  • Admission criteria for bachelor's degree in AI and Robotics

    Educational background

    Applicants who have completed a qualification outside Finland must submit the following documents to Edunation:

    • Copy of the final/official higher secondary school certificate or vocational qualification in English that provides eligibility for higher education studies in the awarding country
    • Transcript of records in English with an overall GPA of 60%, math minimum of 70% and English minimum of 80%

    For Chinese: Gaokao results of 2018/2019 can be used in student selection.

    Language requirements

    Student can speak English at a B1 level (or equivalent). No language test needed.

    Other requirements

    Student should know the very basics of statistics and software, no previous programming skills required.
