Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about studying in Ireland
Living in Ireland
Is Ireland safe?
Yes! Ireland is considered one of the safest countries in the world, ranking highly on the Global Peace Index 2025. It offers a secure and welcoming environment for international students, with low crime rates and a strong focus on public safety.
How much are the estimated living costs in Ireland?
Students can expect to spend approximately €14,000-€20,000 for two semesters (excluding tuition) on accommodation, living expenses, food, a student visa, and more. This is an estimate, and individual costs may vary.
What happens after completing the pathway program?
For visa-required students:
- After completing the Pathway and receiving the final offer, submit documents to ACD for visa support, then apply for a visa (recommended up to 3 months before travel).
For non-visa students:
- After completing the Pathway and receiving the final offer, proceed with tuition payment, enrollment, and travel arrangements.
What accommodation options are available?
Like most small colleges in Dublin, ACD do not offer accommodation. Students find accommodation through third-party providers or private landlords. ACD has a website where they list recommended providers. https://acd.iamu.edu/student-life/accommodation-housing/
Working in Ireland
Can I work while studying in Ireland?
Yes! International students can work up to 20 hours per week during studies ( 40h during holidays).
How much can I earn as an international student?
Part-time work in Dublin typically pays around €11–13 per hour. Working 20 hours per week, you can earn approximately €900–1,100 per month during your studies, and up to €1,800–2,200 per month when working 40 hours during holidays, which can help cover a good portion of your living expenses.
Is there a post-study work visa available?
Students studying an ILEP-listed Level 8 Honours Bachelor’s or a Level 9 Master’s can apply with immigration to stay for a period (12months – Bachelor, 24months – Masters) in Ireland after graduation to seek employment.
When can I apply for EU permanent residency?
You can typically apply for long-term residency in Ireland after 5 years of working and living legally in the country. However, time spent as a student (Stamp 2) usually does not count, so your eligibility starts after you switch to a work visa.
The closest thing to permanent residency (Stamp 5) can be applied for after around 8 years of legal residence, excluding your student years.
